Squid is an open-source caching and forwarding HTTP/HTTPS web proxy widely used in enterprise environments for web traffic control, content caching, bandwidth optimisation, and access control. It supports SSL bumping for encrypted traffic inspection and integration with external authentication and content filtering systems. 

Squid generates detailed access logs recording every web request processed including client IP, requested URL, HTTP method, response code, content type, and cache hit status. These logs provide web activity visibility for security monitoring, enabling detection of malicious communications, policy violations, and anomalous browsing patterns.
