pfSense is an open-source firewall and router platform based on FreeBSD that provides enterprise-level security features including stateful packet inspection, VPN (IPsec and OpenVPN), traffic shaping, load balancing, and multi-WAN capabilities. It is widely deployed in organizations of all sizes for perimeter and internal network security. 

pfSense generates detailed firewall logs recording all connection attempts including blocked and passed traffic with source/destination information, ports, and protocols. Additional log sources include OpenVPN access logs, DHCP leases, DNS resolver queries, and optional packages like Suricata/Snort IDS logs, providing comprehensive network security visibility for threat detection and incident investigation.
