FreeBSD Project (Open Source)

FreeBSD
FreeBSD is an open-source Unix-like operating system used extensively in network appliances, firewalls, storage systems, and servers. Many commercial security products (including pfSense and OPNsense) are built on FreeBSD. It provides robust security features including jails (containers), mandatory access controls, and comprehensive audit capabilities.
FreeBSD system logs capture authentication events, security audit trails, kernel messages, and service-level logs. Integrating FreeBSD log data enables security monitoring of the underlying operating system for network appliances and servers, detecting unauthorised access, privilege escalation, and system compromises.
