AWS WAF (Web Application Firewall) v2 is a managed web application firewall that helps protect web applications and APIs from common web exploits and bots. It provides control over which traffic reaches applications by creating security rules that block common attack patterns like SQL injection and cross-site scripting, as well as custom rules to filter specific traffic patterns. 

For security response actions, AWS WAFv2 enables real-time blocking and unblocking of IP addresses at the edge, preventing malicious actors from reaching protected applications. This capability is essential for rapid threat containment when active attacks are detected, allowing security teams to immediately block attacker infrastructure while investigating incidents.
