Many of you have requested a way to view your Sophos Firewall configurations in an easy-to-read format. The Sophos Firewall product team is pleased to announce a new Sophos Firewall Configuration Viewer that provides a browser-based tool for easily viewing, auditing, documenting, and comparing firewall configuration files.
Note that no data is shared outside your browser. Your data stays private and is not uploaded anywhere – all the file parsing, analysis, and report generation stays local to your device.
What can it do:
- Easily review your entire Sophos Firewall configuration on a single screen with features to filter, sort, and search
- Compare two Sophos Firewall configurations from the same or different devices to see what’s different
- Search for references to network objects to see where they are used in the configuration
- Export an HTML version of the configuration for documentation or archival
How to use it: To get started, you will need to export your configuration to an XML file which is done easily on your Sophos Firewall under Backup and Firmware > Import export

You will need to unpack the download to access the entities.xml file and upload it into the Sophos Firewall Configuration Viewer…

You will then get an easily viewable report that you can filter, sort, search, or download:

The “Usage reference” is a great feature that allows you to see where objects are referenced in the configuration.
You can also easily compare two configurations that will show elements that have been added or modified or are different.
