The Sophos Web Appliance does not allow you to block or allow sites in the Phishing and Fraud, Spam URLs or Spyware site categories on the:

  • Configuration|Group Policy|Default Policy page
  • Configuration|Group Policy|Special Hours page
  • Configuration|Group Policy|Additional Policies page.

These site categories are grayed out because they contain URLs that are known to be malicious. Therefore, the Sophos Web Appliance does not allow administrators to grant access to these web sites.

  • The Phishing and Fraud site category includes sites involved in phishing and telephone scams, service theft advice sites, and plagiarism and cheating sites, including the sale of research papers.
  • The Spam URLs site category includes URLs found in spam, particularly on these topics: computing, finance and stocks, entertainment, games, health and medicine, humor and novelties, personal and dating, products and services, shopping, and travel.
  • The Spyware site category includes sites that provide or promote information gathering or tracking that is unknown to, or done without the explicit consent of, the end user or the organization, including sites that carry malicious executables or viruses, third party monitoring, and other unsolicited commercial software, spyware, and malware 'phone home' destinations.

Note: This spyware site category contains malicious spyware URLs only. Non-malicious spyware URLs are listed in the Advertisements and Pop-ups site category.
