Issue

When a user clicks on the spam digest email link they see the below error:

A server-side error has occurred
Error: Failed to create object (SavexSrvc.SavexMgr)
Code: -2147024891
Description: 006~ASP 0178~Server.CreateObject Access Error~The call to Server.CreateObject failed while checking permissions. Access is denied to this object.

Cause

The digest email link uses anonymous authentication within Windows to access the Quarantine Digest website. The Windows anonymous user account (IUSR) needs DCOM permissions on the Sophos PureMessage Web Agent service (SavexWebAgent) for this purpose. If the DCOM permissions are not present, then an 'access denied' error is returned.

What To Do

Edit the DCOM permissions of the SavexWebAgent service

  1. Open a Run... prompt
  2. Type the below command

    Dcomcnfg

  3. Expand the below path:

Component services | Computers | My Computer | DCOM Config

  4. Locate the SavexWebAgent service, right-click and select Properties
  5. In the Security tab, click the Edit... button within the Launch and Activation Permissions section
  6. Click the Add button and enter the IUSR account, click OK
  7. Select the below Permissions:

Local Launch, Remote Launch, Local Activation, Remote Activation

  8. Click the Edit... button within the Access Permissions section
  9. Click the Add button and enter the IUSR account, click OK
  10. Select the below Permissions:

    Local Access, Remote Access

  11. In the Security tab, click the Apply button
  12. Restart the Sophos PureMessage Web Agent service (SavexWebAgent)
  13. The digest email link should now open correctly
