Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp Storage Systems: Error message "Service 'Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp' [...] failed to start"

During the installation of Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp Storage Systems, the error message below may be reported

"Service 'Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp' (Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

This is usually because the user does not have the right to 'Logon as a service'.

What to do

  • Check that the user has the right to log on as a service.

If problems persist, do as follows

  1. Click 'Ignore'.
  2. After installation has completed, open services.
  3. Locate 'Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp' in the list.
  4. Right-click it, and select 'Properties'.
  5. Select the Log On tab.
  6. Click 'Browse'.
  7. Ensure that the loction selected is the domain, and not the local computer.
  8. Enter the name of the domain user.
  9. Click 'OK'.
  10. Enter the correct password and confirm it.
  11. Click 'Apply'.
  12. Click 'OK'.
  13. Right-click the service, and select 'Start'.
