Sophos Anti-Virus Scanning Cache

Since the release of Sophos Anti-Virus 10.2 an updated file caching system has been implemented. Sophos Anti-Virus now regularly queries the system USN journal to check for file changes.

This means that under certain conditions, if a file has not changed since the last time it was scanned then it need not be scanned again. This can lead to performance increases as files are not needlessly re-scanned.

The journal will be ignored under the following circumstances:

  • An IDE update has been performed since the last time the file was scanned
  • The Sophos Anti-Virus scanning policy has been changed
