Deployment of the Sophos security Virtual Machine (SSVM) fails when the installation attempts to activate itself with the vShield Manager. One of the following error messages is displayed in the command prompt:

  • Finalising SVM Configuration

  • Activating SSVM

  • Failed activation of the SSVM

  • Removing deployed SSVM

  • Unknown VM, Moid-vm = xxxx

Sophos Anti-Virus for VMware vShield 1.0.0

This can be caused when the vShield Manager does not respond to the SSVM which in turn can occur after a network configuration change or a network outage.

What To Do

  1. Restart vShield Manager
    • Right click on vShield Manager, select Power and then Restart Guest
  2. Attempt redeployment of the SSVM
