How to change the logging level for the Sophos Patch Agent

The Sophos Patch Agent by default logs at logging level 2, though this can be increased for diagnostic purposes. Logging levels are available from 2 (least) to 4 (verbose).

What To Do

  1. Stop the Sophos Patch Agent service (Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Press Enter)
  2. Open the Registry Editor (Start | Run | Type: regedit.exe | Press Enter)
  3. Locate the below registry key:

    HKLM\Software\Sophos\Sophos Patch Agent\

  4. Right-click the Logging value and select 'Modify'
  5. Enter a decimal value from 2 to 4
  6. Start the Sophos Patch Agent service

The patch logs are located here:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Sophos\Sophos Patch Agent\Logs\

  • PatchChecker_patch.log
    • Logs details of patch assessments, including the components the assessment is checking for
  • PatchChecker_trace.log
    • Logs the entire PatchChecker process, including contacting the management server, downloading files, running the assessment and returning a status to the management server.
