What To Do

The way to get the location of a device is different between iOS 6 and iOS 7 devices due to changes within the operating system Apple has introduced.

iOS 6 devices
Localization of a device can be configured in the Sophos Mobile Control web console at "Settings | iOS Client".

Using this setting the device will send a location information to the server after it has moved the distance which can be defined here.

This setting defines how far the device can move without trying to send a new location to the Sophos Mobile Control server.
However, this setting will not take effect if the Sophos Mobile Control application is not installed on the iOS device.
The app itself must be running in the app switcher which is shown by pressing the home button twice.

iOS 7 devices
An update of the location will not be send automatically to the SMC server.
As of iOS 7 and SMC 3.6 the device can be triggered to send in the location using the "Locate" button in the device details or the task in Self Service Portal if enabled.  To get the location the app must be running in the app switcher which is shown by pressing the home button twice. Furthermore, the app must be allowed to use the Location Services of the iOS device ("Settings | Privacy | Location Services").
