What to do

Standalone Sophos Anti-Virus

By default, a Sophos Anti-Virus 9.x installation will send email alerts only when an error is encountered.

  • To enable/disable e-mail alerts for other events (such as a successful update) run:
    /opt/sophos-av/bin/savconfig set NotifyOnUpdate <true/false>
  • To enable/disable further alerts for every update check (even when no update is downloaded), run:
    /opt/sophos-av/bin/savconfig set NotifyOnUpdateCheck <true/false>

Managed Sophos Anti-Virus

An Enterprise Console managed client will send e-mail alerts for successful updates, based on the default Enterprise Console configuration. To disable this centrally using Sophos Enterprise Console, follow these steps:

  1. Edit the relevant 'Updating' policy.
  2. Click on the 'Logging' tab.
  3. Deselect the 'Log Sophos AutoUpdate activity' option.

Note: The 'Log Sophos AutoUpdate activity' option does not disable Logging on Linux/Unix systems - It simply disables NotifyOnUpdate.  However, this option will turn off logging for other platforms (e.g. Windows). We recommend you create a separate updating policy for Linux/Unix endpoints if you are disabling this option.
