Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

Enterprise Console 4.5.0

Microsoft .NET 4.0 was previously installed and then uninstalled, in the registry there is one or more broken references to 'mscorlib.tlb' in the following registry location:

These references indicate a location on the system drive that are either invalid or missing.

What To Do

Choose only one solution from the following:

Solution 1 - Reinstall .NET 4.0 (Recommended)

If .NET 4.0 is required by other applications on the PC, .NET 4.0 should be reinstalled or repaired. This MSDN Blog covers how to repair .NET 4.0. The web installer for .NET 4.0 is available here.

Note: Version 4.0 to 5.1 of Sophos Enterprise Console do not require .NET 4.0 to be installed.

Solution 2 - Remove the problem registry reference

Note: These steps will delete a registry key that could impact other installed applications, before continuing, ensure that .NET 4.0 has been uninstalled and no other applications require .NET 4.0.

  1. Open Regedit and navigate to the following location:
  2. Backup this key, right click and select Export.
  3. Under this location there will be a series of sub-keys, look for one called '2.4'
  4. Delete the key named '2.4'.

There are likely to be other '2.x' registry key values under 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{BED7F4EA-1A96-11D2-8F08-00A0C9A6186D' which could have references to 'mscorlib.tlb'. If the path is missing or incomplete the same error will occur.
