  • Updated: 29 Mar 2016

Issue

When trying to boot from external medium, even after clicking Options, Boot From External Medium, POA still does not hand off to CD-ROM or USB Device.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

SafeGuard Device Encryption Encryption Clients 6.0.

Operating systems

All supported Operating Systems

What To Do

To boot from external medium you need to have the following in place;

  • CDROM or USB Device set to boot first in BIOS

To allow continue booting from external medium at POA, you will need to have the following policy (option) item set:

  • ~ Authentication (Access): User May only boot from the hard disk = No.

Once you have logged on past the POA, you should now be able to boot from external medium.

Please note: It is possible that all these items are fulfilled and the BIOS still does not allow hand off from the HDD (the POA effectively) to the CDROM or USB Device.

The option to boot from an external media after POA has been removed as of version 6.10.
