This article describes how to manually remove the Sophos Mobile Control (SMC) client from a users mobile device with an Android operating system.

What to do

Please note: The names of the icons / settings may vary depending on your Android version. Therefore it might be different on your specific device.

  1. Open the program list.
  2. Select the "Settings" icon:
    1. Go to the "Security" settings.
    2. Open the "Device Admin" section.
    3. Deselect Sophos Mobile Control.
  3. Go back to the "Settings" menu:
    1. Select the "Application" menu.
    2. Click on "Manage Applications".
    3. Select the tab "All Applications".
    4. Choose "Sophos Mobile Control".
    5. Click "Uninstall".
  4. If the device has the SAFE Plugin (Samsung devices) installed as well, wait up to five minutes and then remove that app as well.

This removes the client software. Settings that were defined via the Sophos Mobile Control client will remain active but may be changed.

Alternatively the Sophos Mobile Control administrator can also run the "Decommission" command via the "Actions" pane in the device details of the respective device. This will remove all settings and device administrators applied by Sophos Mobile Control.
To run the "Decommission" command as a user, the Sophos Mobile Control Self Service Portal can be used, if activated. Once logged in to the Self Service Portal, click on the device you want to decommission and select the respective action from the drop down list.

As of Sophos Mobile Control 5.0 you can also perform a decommissioning by using the "Unenroll" button in the "About" section of the app.

Once the decommissioning task succeeded remove the applications as described above starting with step 3.
