Internal error received when trying to cleanup detections from the Console "An unknown exception was caught."

When trying to clean-up items in Enterprise Console, the following error is displayed:

An internal error has occurred

Enterprise Console could not determine which error occurred.

Clicking on the 'Advanced...' button shows the following detailed error message:

An unknown exception was caught.

EnterpriseConsole.exe is being denied access to the registry location detailed in the 'What to do' section below.

What to do

  1. Close Enterprise Console.
  2. Read this warning about editing the Windows registry
  3. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sophos
  4. If the Sophos key does not exist, create it by right clicking on Software and choose New > Key.
  5. Edit the permissions on the Sophos key to ensure that Administrators and System have full control.
  6. Re-open Enterprise Console.
