This article explains how to enable verbose data control logging on an endpoint machine. This can be useful when troubleshooting unexpected behavior as the verbose logs will give further information on exactly which rule has caused a file to be blocked/permitted.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)
Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ 9.0.0

What To Do

Verbose data control logging can only be enabled at the endpoint and is not a policy option that can be enabled from the console. To turn on verbose logging:

  1. Launch Sophos Endpoint Security and Control
  2. From the menu select 'Configure | Data Control...'
  3. In the 'Configure Sophos Data Control' window select the radio button under 'Logging Level' entitled 'Verbose'.
  4. Select 'OK'

The verbose information will now be logged to the default Data Control logs under:

C:\Program Data\Sophos\Sophos Data Control\Logs
