Clarissa Peterson

Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Clarissa Peterson is the Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Sophos. In this role, Clarissa is responsible for the strategy and management of the global human resource organization, and the development of world-class talent at Sophos.

Clarissa joined Sophos in August 2017 from Abt Associates where she had served as the Chief Human Resources & Ethics Officer. Clarissa joined Abt Associates from DLA Piper, a global law firm. During her seven-year tenure at DLA Piper as Chief People Officer, she led its domestic and international HR functions. In addition, she served on the global integration team for the merger of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich LLP, Piper Rudnick LLP, and UK-based DLA LLP, the largest law firm merger in history.


During her career, Clarissa has held several executive positions, including a first tenure at Abt Associates from 2000 to 2005 as vice president of human resources, and at Vialog Corporation whom she joined as vice president of human resources in 1998.


Clarissa is the past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI), the internationally recognized certifying organization for the HR profession. Clarissa co-authored the book Maximizing Your HR Efforts (Thomson Reuters /Aspatore, 2009) and is a co-author of the e-book The Rise of HR: The Wisdom of 72 Thought Leaders (2015).

Clarissa graduated from the University of Maryland and holds the Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and Leading Professional in Ethics and Compliance (LPEC) certifications.
