Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses and spam, has been awarded the British Business Award for Information Computing and Telecommunications by the British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.
"Achieving a 20-fold growth in revenue in 3 years deserves celebration and recognition," said Jonathan Asherson, President of the British Chamber of Commerce, as Sophos's award was announced.
"This is a great honour for Sophos Asia, but more importantly it's public recognition of the success that Sophos's professional team in Asia has achieved in the last 3 years," said Charles Cousins, managing director of Sophos Asia who received the award from HRH Prince Andrew. "This award underlines that Sophos is an increasingly important player in the Asian market, offering world-leading products renowned for their reliability and high quality."
Previously known as the SME Awards, the British Business awards aim to serve as a vehicle for the promotion of successful British-linked companies. The expansion of the awards programme in the Chamber's 50th Anniversary Year is particularly significant and underlines one of the Chamber's key missions - which is to expand trade links between Singapore and Britain.
There are over 700 British companies in Singapore, and many more with strong British connections. Nominations for the awards were sought from all kinds of business entity. While growth, turnover and investments were important criteria, finalists were also judged on the less quantifiable contributions such as the development and training of employees, management skills, human capital and after-sales service.
