Sophos Press Release

Sunday Times ARM Tech Track 100

Sophos has been named one of Britain's fastest-growing unquoted technology companies in the second annual Sunday Times ARM Tech Track 100 league table.

The accolade follows a year of achievements for the company. These include being named 'Company of the Year' at the CBI/Real Business Growing Business Awards and receiving two prestigious Queen's Awards for Enterprise in the categories of 'Innovation' and 'International Trade'.

Sophos recently announced its financial results for the year ended 31 March 2002. Highlights included turnover increasing 40% to £31.6 million from £22.6 million the previous year. Profit before tax grew 25% to £9.8 million.

About the league table

The Sunday Times ARM Tech Track 100 is independently compiled by research company Fast Track, and published in The Sunday Times. The title sponsor of the league table is ARM Holdings plc, the microchip designer, with co-sponsorship from Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and Hiscox Insurance. The league table and full research report are also published on the website www.fasttrack100.co.uk.

League table criteria

Companies are ranked according to their compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in sales between 1999 and 2001. Companies had to be registered in the UK as unquoted ultimate holding companies. The survey adopted the London Stock Exchange's techMARK definition of what constitutes a technology company. Companies primarily engaged in simply reselling or reassembling were excluded. Companies also had to forecast an increase in sales from 2001 to 2002, but were not required to be in profit.
