SafeGuard Device Encryption client installation fails with error message:

"5001 - Not enough continuous space found on installation volume to install the Base Encryption system kernel!"

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)
SafeGuard Device Encryption

What To Do

The installation needs at least 300 MB of free hard disk space. For the Base Encryption system kernel, at least 100 MB of this free space must be one contiguous area.

To make sure that this criteria is met, it's highly recommended that you defragment your system before installation if you have less than 5 GB free hard disk space and your operating system is not freshly installed. (A freshly installed operating system increases the likelihood that a contiguous area of sufficient space is available.)

If the error message still occurs even after you defragmented the hard disk, please consider one or more of the following options:

  1. Remove unnecessary data to free up more space on your hard disk (e.g. try Disk Cleanup in the properties of the hard disk in Windows Explorer)
  2. Use a 3rd party defragmentation tool as the Windows integrated tool might not deliver sufficient results
