Intellect, the trade association for the ICT sector, has announced that Graeme Stewart, public sector business development director, Sophos has been appointed as the new Industry Chair of the Local Public Service Supplier Forum, a group which brings together technology suppliers with local authority representatives.
Stewart has worked supplier side in the IT industry for more than 15 years, with the past 11 years at software vendors. On taking over the role of Industry Chair he said:“In a period of unprecedented cutbacks, it is time for all parties to work more closely together. Supplier innovation informed by a clear understanding of Local Government’s priorities will help drive efficiencies throughout the service delivery process. And as technology continues to rapidly change, it provides an opportunity to radically change how Local Government engages with its citizens, which industry is keen to support.”
Stewart added that he is looking for engagement from members on the types of challenges local government and suppliers are facing and how best the forum can facilitate constructive dialogue on these areas.
With a number of major challenges facing Local Authorities in the coming months, a strong relationship with industry will prove vital in achieving quality public services under tight budgetary restraints. The Forum fosters better understanding and a more constructive relationship between local government and industry suppliers, bringing together both sides to debate the issues of the day, share knowledge and create solutions to problems facing councils around the UK.
Intellect is the trade association for the UK’s technology sector which includes the IT, telecoms and electronics industries. Intellect has 780 member companies ranging from major multinationals to SMEs which account for approximately 10per cent of UK GDP.
