US industry expert leaves Lotus for world's leading anti-virus developer

Sophos Anti-Virus, the world's leading developer of corporate virus protection, is continuing to strengthen its position at the leading edge of the anti-virus industry with the expansion of its team of directors.

Jan Hruska, formerly technical director and Peter Lammer, formerly managing director will take on the role of chief executive officers. Their responsibilities will include strategy, recruitment, operations and infrastructure as the company and its subsidiaries continue their rapid growth.

Mark Forrest, sales and marketing director and Peter Norman, non-executive director are joined by Richard Jacobs, technical director while David Hughes takes up the key role as president of Sophos's US subsidiary. Hughes joins from the Lotus Development division of the IBM Corporation where, as vice president of strategy, he was involved at the forefront of change, playing an important role in defining the initial sales integration strategy after Lotus was acquired by IBM in 1995.

"These changes further strengthen our directorial team and will allow us to continue to grow at a rapid pace," said Peter Lammer, chief executive officer, Sophos. "The anti-virus industry has come of age and Sophos is at the forefront, delivering high quality solutions through strong leadership and our commitment to developing a determined and experienced team."

Hughes spent twelve years at Lotus and brings a wealth of expertise in sales, marketing and strategy and extensive experience in leading high performance teams to his new role, which will see him taking overall control of the company's North American and Canadian activities.

Richard Jacobs, formerly managing director of Sophos's subsidiary in the US, will take up the post of technical director. Jacobs, who has worked at Sophos since 1989, has over ten years experience in software development and was a key contributor to the software development program in the UK.
