Configuration requirements for importing Blackberry devices into Sophos Mobile Control

You must configure the Blackberry Enterprise Server (Version 5) server and the Sophos Mobile Control (SMC) server, in order to import Blackberry devices from your Blackberry server to your SMC Server.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

What To Do

1. On the Blackberry Enterprise Server

  • Create a new Administrative user that is not an Active Directory User:
    1. Open "BlackBerry Administration Service".
    2. Expand "Administrator user".
    3. Click on "Create an administrator user".
    4. Change the drop down box to "BlackBerry Administration Service".
    5. Name the Admin (e.g.: BESSMC).
    6. Specify a password.
    7. Give him the role "Enterprise Administrator".
    8. Click on "Create an administrator user" at the bottom to create the new user.

2. On the Sophos Mobile Control Server

  • Specify the Blackberry Server and account:
    1. Log on to the Sophos Mobile Control Server Administration Interface.
    2. Open the System-Settings.
    3. Open the tab "RIM BES".
    4. Specify the Blackberry Enterprise Server name (FQDN).
    5. Enter the user name and password created above.
    6. Click "Save".
  • You can now import existing Blackberry devices as follows:
    1. Go to "Devices" and select "Import Devices".
    2. Change the drop down box to "Blackberry Enterprise Server"
    3. Click "Yes"
    4. Specify the user name and/or the e-mail address of the user/device you want to import.
    5. Select "Query". A list of all results will be displayed.
    6. Select the device(s) you want to import.
    7. Click "Finish"
    8. Specify a "Template" and a "Device Group"
    9. Click "Yes"
