W32/Spybot-EC is a worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform.

W32/Spybot-EC runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels.

When first run W32/Spybot-EC copies itself to <System>\calc32.exe.

The following registry entries are created to run calc32.exe on startup:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

CALC32.EXE

W32/Spybot-EC includes functionality to:

- log keystrokes
- disable system related processes including NETSTAT.EXE, TASKMGR.EXE, MSCONFIG.EXE and REGEDIT.EXE
- download code from the internet
- terminate processes
- setup a HTTP proxy to redirect internet traffic
