W32/Sdbot-AEQ

W32/Sdbot-AEQ is a worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform.

W32/Sdbot-AEQ runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels.

W32/Sdbot-AEQ may spread to remote network shares with weak passwords.

When first run W32/Sdbot-AEQ copies itself to <System>\dumeter.exe and creates the file <System>\msdirectx.sys.

The file msdirectx.sys is detected as Troj/NtRootK-F.

The following registry entries are created to run dumeter.exe on startup:

The file msdirectx.sys is registered as a new system driver service named "msdirectx", with a display name of "msdirectx". Registry entries are created under:

W32/Sdbot-AEQ sets the following registry entries, disabling the automatic startup of other software:

Note: disabling autostart for the SharedAccess service deactivates the Microsoft Internet Connection Firewall (ICF).
