Action

Please follow the instructions for removing Trojans.

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003

In Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 you will also need to edit the following registry entries. The removal of these entries is optional in Windows 95/98/Me. Please read the warning about editing the registry.

At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.

Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entries:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Microsong
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Windows NT

and delete them if they exist.

Close the registry editor.

More Information

Troj/Ranckbot-A drops the files fqvwot.exe and wcs.exe into the folder WinNT\system32 and runs them. These files are detected as W32/Sdbot-EV and
Troj/Ranck-M.

W32/Sdbot-EV copies itself to the file svchosts11.exe in the Windows system folder and creates the following registry entry, pointing to this file:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Microsong

Troj/Ranck-M creates the following registry entry to start itself automatically when Windows boots up:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Windows NT
