Action

Please follow the instructions for removing Trojans.

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003

In Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 you will also need to edit the following registry entry. The removal of this entry is optional in Windows 95/98/Me. Please read the warning about editing the registry.

At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.

Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
dpcproxy = "C:\WINDOWS\System32\dpcproxy.exe"

and delete it if it exists.

Close the registry editor.

More Information

First, Troj/GoldenP-A will download from a predefined location and save the file to <system32>/dpcproxy.ex

The file will be registered as a COM object with clsid (5C7F15E1-F31A-44FD-AA1A-2EC63AAFFD3A). It will also save its configuration in SOFTWARE\dpcproxy and set an autostart registry entry at:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
dpcproxy = "C:\WINDOWS\System32\dpcproxy.exe"

This component is responsible for installing and regenerating the main installer component in <system32>/installer.ex which will run a service named "Installer service", and have registry entries under:

HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Installer
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_INSTALLER

The installer service will then contact a server which may download further components.

Troj/GoldenP-A will also download another component of adware from a predefined webserver.
