Error message '??????????????????????????' displayed when installing Enterprise Console 4

Issue
When trying to install Enterprise Console, the installation fails and you see an error message such as:

?????????????????????????????

Known to apply to the following Sophos products and versions:
Enterprise Console, version 4 

What to do

It is likely that a changed language setting is causing this problem.

1. On the Windows Server, click Start | Control Panel and choose Regional and Language Options.
2. In the Regional and Language Options dialog, click the Advanced tab.
3. In the 'Language for non-Unicode programs' drop-down list, set the language to be the same as the operating system. Click OK.
4. Try installing Enterprise Console again.
