Solution

As of yet, no patch has been released for this vulnerability. Please refer to the Microsoft advisory (see the references section) for an advised workaround.

Vendor descriptionMicrosoft is investigating a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Video ActiveX Control. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the local user. When using Internet Explorer, code execution is remote and may not require any user intervention.
SophosLabs commentsDespite Microsofts claim that this vulnerability has only been privately reported we have received a number of samples already. Given the popularity of the software affected, the severity, and the lack of a patch, SophosLabs has assigned this vulnerability a rating of critical.
SophosLabs testing resultSamples have been tested using Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Currently known exploits

Exp/VidCtl-A has been issued in response to samples we have seen, some samples have also been detected as Troj/JSShell-D.

Lab testing has proven that proactive detection is available by enabling Buffer Overflow detection in Sophos Anti-Virus.
