Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption (SDE): error codes and their meanings
| SDE error code and message | Explanation and What to do |
|---|---|
| 0104/104 Currently installed driver is inconsistent | The Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption kernel was damaged and/or destroyed. Use the Emergency CD to restore the most recent kernel backup or repair the internal kernel backup. |
0113/113 | This error occurs if an installation, uninstallation, encryption, decryption or update was not completed. In order to solve this error, the procedure that was interrupted must be started again. Therefore, you have to save your data (if possible) and reinstall your system. |
1048 | A file could not be copied, extracted or replaced. Determine whether the installation files can be read without errors and that there is sufficient (contiguous) space on the hard drive. |
| 1089 The installation of Sophos Disk Encryption could not be completed due to the following error: SDE???? | This error occurs when there was either not enough contiguous hard disk space available for installation or it was not possible to write the system kernel to the hard disk. Press the OK button. This will roll back the SDE installation and the computer will reboot automatically. When the computer starts up again, try to make some space on the hard disk, then defragment the hard disk and try installing again. |
| 1104 The partition configuration information is inconsistent | The hard disk partition data could not be recognized or numbered consecutively. This can happen if the Windows Device Manager recognizes equipment such as a USB or PCMCIA hard disk or an ATAPI-ZIP drive as an IDE hard disk partition. Remove the device before installing SDE, then re-connect it after the hard disk has been encrypted. |
| 1109 Module '%1' could not not be loaded | An error occurred while loading a dynamic program library. The file is either missing or incorrect or the library could not be registered. Try rebooting the computer. If the error occurs again, repair Sophos Disk Encryption using Add/Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel. |
| 1121 Unknown environment variable defined | During Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption installation, the installer extends the path listed in the environment variable key with the path to the Sophos Disk Encryption installation folder. The installer reads the following registry key:[SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]. If the key is either missing or exceeds 254 characters, installation will fail with error 1121. Either add the missing registry key or shorten the path (at least temporarily to enable the installation to proceed) to allow the path to the SDE installation folder to be added without the limit of 254 characters being reached. |
| 1123 Loading Modul SGEDRV.dll/SGEAPI.dll/SGEEDR.dll failed error #126 | This problem has been observed on computers where the entry for Sophos Disk Encryption was removed from the PATH variable. Check the entry for the PATH on the computer and add C:\PROGRAM FILES\SOPHOS\SAFEGUARD DISK ENCRYPTION (or the appropriate installation directory). Please note: the entry for Sophos Disk Encryption must be stored within the first 256 characters of the PATH variable. To adjust the PATH setting for multiple clients: To adjust the PATH setting for a single client: |
| 1244 Reading from a drive has failed | If this error occurs during installation, make sure that hard disk “0” includes the start partition. Also, switch off security software (other than Sophos products) during installation, as these programs can prevent access to certain drives. If this error occurs after installation, your laptop may have an internal multimedia card reader, which integrates as hard disc 0 in your system. Deactivate this device either in Windows or in BIOS during installation. After the hard disk has been encrypted, re-enable the device. |
| 1254 System has started in compatibility mode | You may be using an IOMEGA ZIP which creates a virtual SCSI-Adapter that works in compatibility mode. Uninstall the IOMEGA.zip driver before installing SDE, then re-install the IOMEGA.zip driver. |
| 1264 System service status could not be changed | A system service could not be stopped or started. Try restarting your system. If restarting does not fix the problem, try repeating the installation/uninstallation that you were attempting. |
| 1274 Entry in the registry could not be created | The registry key may already exist or the existing key value is not correct. Also, the user performing the installation may not have sufficient rights to edit the registry. |
| 1602 The SDE subsystem doesn't allow more than 5 logon attempts. Restart the computer to start this application again | SDE may have been uninstalled and then reinstalled without rebooting the computer between procedures. To resolve this problem:
