Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption (SDE): creating a kernel backup
After Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption is installed, you may wish to create a backup copy of the kernel in case the internal kernel backup does not work. The SDE kernel is essential to both the computer's encryption settings and to restoring the system if there is a problem. Without the specific kernel for that computer, you could lose access to the data on the computer in case of system corruption.
Note: We recommend that you save kernel backups to a central location or external media in case of system corruption.
Creating a kernel backup
You can create a kernel backup:
- using the emergency CD.
- using the command line program SGEBACK.EXE. You could send a command to all your computers using Active Directory. The allowed parameters are listed below:
Parameter Explanation /f: path and name of backup files
