SolutionUsers are advised to apply the vendor patch for MS08-058 .
Vendor descriptionThis security update resolves five privately reported vulnerabilities and one publicly disclosed vulnerability. The vulnerabilities could allow information disclosure or remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
SophosLabs commentsThe fixed vulnerabilities mostly allow malicious attacker to access potentially identifiable information if a user opens a malicious web page in Internet Explorer. However, CVE-2008-3475 and CVE-3008-3476 allow for remote code execution and they are more likely to be used in malware. Users of Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems are at a higher risk than users os Windows Vista.
