What to do
Perform one of the following workarounds:
- Disable the Sophos Web Content Scanner BHO (Browser Helper Object) as described in the knowledgebase article How to locally enable or disable the Sophos web content scanner
- Disable the Sophos Web Content Scanner BHO (Browser Helper Object) centrally as described in the knowledgebase article Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: how to manage web content scanning policies
- In EM Library subscribe to the fixed package available on the databanks. Packages with the Sophos Web Content Scanner BHO disabled are available on the http://es-central-3.sophos.com databank as follows:
- If you have Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, use the package called:
"Windows Endpoint Security and Control 8.0 with SAV v7.6.0 RC2 VDL4.34E" - If you have only Sophos Anti-Virus, use the package called:
"Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows v7.6.0 RC2 VDL4.34E"
- If you have Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, use the package called:
- Disable Explorer.exe from loading the Sophos Web Content Scanner BHO (Browser Help Object). To do this, add the following registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{39EA7695-B3F2-4C44-A4BC-297ADA8FD235}]
"NoExplorer"=dword:00000001NOTE. Internet Explorer will still load the Sophos Web Content Scanner BHO and scan content. However, if Windows Explorer is used to view a webpage content will not be scanned by the Sophos Web Content Scanner BHO, but will still be scanned by the on-access scanner.
A fix for this issue will be released with Sophos Anti-Virus, version 7.6.1. You will need to remove this registry key when this fix is released, in order to re-enable the functionality.
