Installing Enterprise Console and PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange on same network
When you install Enterprise Console and PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange onto the same network, you must perform some additional configuration to ensure spam rules are correctly updated.
If you do not configure your computers as described in this article, you could receive error messages indicating that spam rules have failed to update.
What to do
You will need the Sophos
- Open Enterprise Console, and create a new group for the PureMessage for Windows/Exchange computers. For details, refer to the section 'How do I create and use groups', in the Enterprise Console user manual.
- Select 'Updating Policy' for this group, and working from the 'Set updating policy for computers in the group...' dialog box, configure the 'Secondary server' as 'Sophos'. Enter the username and password in the relevant sections. If you use a proxy for access, you must also configure that.
- Exclude the \Sophos\PureMessage\Temp file from both on-access and on-demand scanning. Details of how to do this are in the Enterprise Console user manual.
Note: If you have Microsoft Exchange server installed on your network, you may need to disable or exclude files from scanning.
Technical information
- If you use 'SQL 2005 express' as your database, you must install PureMessage for Exchange before Sophos Enterprise Control
- Otherwise - install Sophos Enterprise Control, update MSDE to SP4, then install PureMessage for Exchange. If you don't do it this way PureMessage for Exchange will try to install 'SQL 2005 express', or fail
- If you use 'SQL 2005 express', you should note that Network Access Control requires 'SQL 2000 Server'
