Enterprise Console: when installing Sophos Anti-Virus error 00000048 or error 3004 is displayed
Issue
When deploying/installing Sophos Anti-Virus to a client computer, Enterprise Console may display the error:
00000048 - the registry could not be accessed
If you are doing a manual install, you may get the error:
3004 - Sophos Anti-Virus cannot be installed due to some registry keys not having permissions

Microsoft Windows 2000 and above
What to do
- On the affected client computer, go to Windows services and ensure that the 'Remote registry' and the 'Computer browser' services are started.

Open the Windows registry and check that certain keys have the correct permissions. Before you start ensure that,
- you have read the warnings about editing the registry
- you understand how to apply registry permissions. Details are given in knowledgebase article 13811.

Check the following registry keys ensuring 'Administrators' and 'System' have full control:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sophos
(If this key is not present, create it and apply the above permissions)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Interface
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Typelib
- Try installing again. If you are still seeing the same error code on a computer running Windows XP or above, ensure that you're using Windows Installer version 4.5 or above. For instructions on how to check which version of Windows Installer you have installed, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa368280(VS.85).aspx. If necessary, download the appropriate Windows Installer 4.5 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4.
- Try installing again.
