PureMessage for UNIX: Upgrading from a pre-5.3.2 version

If you are not already running PureMessage version 5.3.2 or later, it is recommended that you first upgrade to 5.3.2 before following the standard installation steps to upgrade to the latest version.

What to do

  1. As the "pmx" user, download the 5.3.2.0 tarball from the Sophos repository (http://pmx.sophos.com/tarball/) that matches your operating system, and place it in the home directory.

  2. As the "pmx" user, extract the tarball in the PureMessage user's home directory:

    tar xvf pmx-repo-5.3.2.0-OperatingSystem.tar

This creates a directory, /opt/pmx/home/pmxrepo, where the installation files will be placed.

  3. As the root user, run the following command:

    /opt/pmx/bin/pmx-setup

  4. In the installer, click Upgrade PureMessage Components. Then click Change repository. Enter the following:

    /opt/pmx/home/pmxrepo

  5. Click Check for updates. There should be multiple packages that show Yes under Update Available?

  6. Click Upgrade Components. You are prompted to stop PureMessage before the upgrade proceeds. Click Yes. The progress of the upgrade is displayed in the installer.

  7. When the upgrade has finished, click Change repository. Switch back to the default repository:

    http://ak-repo1.sophos.com/pmx/v5/linux

Follow the upgrade instructions in the Getting Started Guide section of the PureMessage documentation to upgrade from 5.3.2 to the latest version of PureMessage.
