Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: device control error message in event log
Issue
If you look in the event log, the following error message is seen when you restart a computer:
Application popup : SDCDevCon.exe - DLL Initialization failed: The application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down.
This is a known issue. It occurs when sdcdevcon.exe (a component of device control) attempts to enable or disable a device during computer shutdown.
What to do
Check the computer complies with policy on subsequent start-up. If so, this error can be safely ignored. If not, from Enterprise Console, make the computer comply with policy.
