Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: device control messages regarding blocked Bluetooth devices
Issue
When Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ with device control, blocks Bluetooth devices, you may get what appear to be inconsistent messages indicating that the device has been disabled, or you may get more messages than you would expect.
Cause
This is caused by the way Sophos device control blocks a Bluetooth device and its associated enumerator.
When Sophos device control issues a blocking policy, it may set the Bluetooth enumerator to be blocked or allowed, depending on several factors, for example,
- whether or not the device is plugged in when you issue the blocking policy.
- which particular Bluetooth device you are using.
Whether or not the enumerator itself is blocked makes no difference to the end result of blocking the actual Bluetooth device, however it may result in you seeing two messages relating to the one device, or slightly confusing messages.
