PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange: MMC cannot initialise the snapin when launching console
Issue
The PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange, version 3.x, console will not start and displays the following message:
MMC cannot initialise the snapin
Sophos product and version
PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange, version 3.0.1
Operating system
Windows 2003 SBS R2 SP2
Technical information
There can be a number of reasons for this error. It is usually because either pmadmincontrols.dll is not registered or a component it depends on is not registered/present in the directory.
What to do
In the first instance, try to re-register the pmadmincontrols:
c:\[path to the .net framework on the machine]\ regasm /unregister "c:\program files\sophos\PureMessage\bin\pmadmincontrols.dll"
c:\[path to the .net framework on the machine]\ regasm /codebase "c:\program files\sophos\PureMessage\bin\pmadmincontrols.dll"
The path to the .net is usually:
- On 32 bit computers:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\ - On 64 bit computers:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727
