PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange: emails going into Junk e-mail in Outlook 2003
Issue
Emails are going into the Junk e-mail folder of Outlook 2003
Sophos product and version
PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange, version 3.0.0
Operating system
Windows 2003
What to do
Make sure Exchange is on SP2. If not, you must apply SP2 as it is required for the following workaround.
- Go into 'Exchange System Manager' and select Global Settings.
- Right-click on 'Message Delivery' and select 'Properties'.
- Select Intellligent Message Filtering|Store Junk E-mail Configuration.
- Increase the value of 'Move messages with an SCL rating greater than or equal to:'.
Technical Information:
Exchange uses the Spam Confidence Level (SCL) to classify messages as Junk. PureMessage increases this value when mails score below the equivalent PureMessage spam rating (0-100%). There is a related PureMessage bug DEF18382 which means the SCL is always altered even if the check-box in the PureMessage anti-spam settings is unchecked.
