Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows: How to enable verbose logging
Sophos Technical Support may ask you to change to verbose level logging on a client computer before sending log files for analysis. The reasons for this can include because you are having 'differs from policy' issues or some services fail to start.
To enable verbose you can do one of the following:
- follow the instructions in chapter 10 of the Sophos Anti-Virus User Manual to change the logging level in the Sophos Anti-Virus control panel (recommended for Small Business Edition users) before using the Sophos Diagnostic Utility.
- more advanced users may prefer to change the logging level in the Registry Editor, as described below.
What to do
- Stop the 'Sophos Agent' service.
- Open the Registry Editor. See Registry Editor for more information.
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\SOPHOS\remote management system\ManagementAgent.
- Create a new DWORD value named 'LogLevel'.
- Change its value to 2.
- Re-start the 'Sophos Agent' service.
- Right-click the Sophos Shield and select Update Now.
- Install and run the Sophos Diagnostic Utility.
- After you have sent the logs to Sophos Technical Support, please remove the DWORD value created in the registry.
If you need more information or guidance, then please contact technical support.
