Enterprise Console: using a scheduled scan on multiple VMware virtual machines
If scheduled, or other, scans are run on multiple VMware virtual machines on the same computer at the same time, performance on that computer will be badly affected. Ensure that the scans run at different times.
What to do
Stagger the run time of your scheduled scans.
- Open Enterprise Console.
- Create several groups for your virtual machines, e.g. VM1, VM2, VM3.
- Configure a separate Anti-virus and HIPS policy for each group. You can duplicate an existing policy, and add the scans to it.
- Right-click 'Anti-virus and HIPS', or an individual policy.
- Select 'Create policy', or 'Duplicate policy'.
- Give the new policy a name (e.g. VM1).
- Select View/Edit policy.
- In 'Anti-virus and HIPS policy', under 'Scheduled scanning', select 'Add'.
- Give a time for the scheduled scan, and give it a recognisable name (e.g. VM1).
- Click 'OK' twice to save your scan and settings.
- Configure a separate Anti-virus and HIPS policy for all of your other groups, ensuring that the scheduled scan runs at a different time.
