Enterprise Console: displays message 'Awaiting Policy from Console' or 'Awaiting Response from Client'

Issue
One of the following messages relating to a client computer is displayed in the Enterprise Console:

Awaiting Policy from Console
or
Awaiting Response from Client

A message like this may be displayed following deployment.

Sophos product and version
Enterprise Console 3.0

Operating system
Windows XP Professional SP2

What to do

  1. Open the Remote Management System (RMS) ports on the Windows Firewall (8192-8194)
  2. Turn off on-access scanning on the client computer. It now reports back correctly to the console. (This indicates that RMS is working).
  3. Ensure that the server has been protected. If unsure, protect it.

Client computer should now report correctly.
