Enterprise Console, version 3: installing the database in a clustered SQL Server environment
NOTE: This article applies to Enterprise Console version 3. If you have Enterprise Console version 4, refer to the knowledgebase article Installing the Enterprise Console version 4 database in a clustered SQL Server environment.
If you attempt to install the Enterprise Console, version 3, database onto a SQL Server cluster using the script ManualInstall.bat, the installation will fail as a local computer name is referred to in the script. When installing on an SQL Server cluster, use the script InstallDB.bat instead.
For information on advanced installation, including placing the database on a separate computer from the console, see section 6 of the Large Networks Configuration Guide and appendix A, Upgrading the database manually, in the Network upgrade guide: upgrading from Enterprise Console version 2
What to do
- Download the script InstallDB.bat and save it to disk.
- Create the domain groups 'Sophos DB Admins' and 'Sophos DB Users'.
- Decide which user domain account will be used by the Enterprise Console, version 3, server to access the database. If necessary, create a new account. Add the account (or appropriate group to which the account already belongs) to the domain group 'Sophos DB Admins'.
- Decide which user domain account will be used by the Enterprise Console, version 3, user interface to access the database. If necessary, create a new account. Add the account (or appropriate group to which the account already belongs) to domain group 'Sophos DB Users'.
- Logon on as administrator to the cluster node that is currently active.
- Run the Enterprise Console, version 3, server installer, opt for Custom mode and select only the Database component. When prompted, select the SQL Server instance name and choose the option 'Populate database later'. Follow the installation wizard and complete the installation. (For details please refer to section 6.1 of the 'Large Networks Guide').
- Go to the folder %ProgramFiles%\Sophos\Enterprise Console\DB\ and copy the file InstallDB.bat to it.
- Make sure the account you are logged in has sysadmin privileges at the SQL Server instance where the database will be installed. Open a command prompt, and move to the folder %ProgramFiles%\Sophos\Enterprise Console\DB\
- Run InstallDB.bat with the appropriate parameters:
- The first parameter is the SQL Server instance name (format: serverName\instanceName) in which the database will be created.
- The second parameter is the name of domain in which groups 'Sophos DB Admins' and 'Sophos DB Users' have been created (see steps 1,2 and 3 above).
Example:InstallDB Clustername\SQLADM Domain1
(Installs to instance SQLADM on Clustername, where the group 'Sophos DB Admin' is in Domain1.) - Login as administrator on the server where the Enterprise Console server component will be installed.
- Start the Enterprise Console version 3 server installer, opt in for custom installation, and select all server components except the database.
- When prompted, specify the SQL server instance name where the database was installed during step 8.
- When prompted, specify the account which the Enterprise Console server will use to access the database (see step 2).
- When prompted, specify the 'Sophos DB Users' for a domain group with accounts that the Enterprise Console GUI can use to access the database.
