Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: during installation error 3061 displayed
Issue
While installing Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, you see the following error message,
Error 3061. Could not set default updating settings

What to do
The following procedures assume you attempted to install Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ to the default location. If you were installing to a non-default location, the files will be found elsewhere.
The locations vary slightly according to whether you are installing on enterprise solutions, small business solutions or a standalone computer. Follow the relevant procedure.
Enterprise solutions
- Go to \\servername\interchk\esxp\sau\program files\sophos\ and copy the folder called 'autoupdate' into c:\program files\sophos.
- Go to C:\Program Files\sophos\autoupdate, and make a copy of the the folder called 'defaultconfig'.
- Paste 'default config' into C:\Program Files\sophos\autoupdate. When you paste it in, because it is a duplicate, Windows will automatically rename it 'Copy of defaultconfig'.
- Rename 'Copy of defaultconfig' to Config.
- Go to \\servername\interchk\esxp, and double-click Setup.exe. Installation of Sophos Anti-Virus should now proceed correctly.
Small business solutions
- Go to \\servername\Sophos\savscfxp\sau\commonappdata\sophos\ and copy the folder called 'autoupdate' into c:\program files\sophos.
- Go to C:\Program Files\sophos\autoupdate, and make a copy of the the folder called 'defaultconfig'.
- Paste 'default config' into c:\program files\sophos\autoupdate. When you paste it in, because it is a duplicate, Windows will automatically rename it 'Copy of defaultconfig'.
- Rename 'Copy of defaultconfig' to Config.
- Go to \\servername\Sophos\savscfxp and double-click Setup.exe. Installation of Sophos Anti-Virus should now proceed correctly.
Standalone computers
- Go to c:\sav65sasfx\sau\program files\sophos\ and copy the folder called 'autoupdate' into c:\program files\sophos.
- Go to C:\Program Files\sophos\autoupdate, and make a copy of the the folder called 'defaultconfig'.
- Paste 'default config' into c:\program files\sophos\autoupdate. When you paste it in, because it is a duplicate, Windows will automatically rename it 'Copy of defaultconfig'.
- Rename 'Copy of defaultconfig' to Config.
- Go to c:\sav65sasfx and double-click Setup.exe. Installation of Sophos Anti-Virus should now proceed correctly
