Enterprise Console: error 80070035 is displayed when you deploy Sophos Anti-Virus

When using Enterprise Console to deploy Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, version 6 or above, the following error is displayed in Enterprise Console, against the name of the computer you are deploying to:

80070035 Could not start installation program on the computer. The network path was not found.

What to do

  1. On the target computer:
    • Enable and start the Windows 'Remote registry service'. This is disabled by default on Windows Vista and Windows 2008.
    • Check the Windows Firewall exceptions and ensure that file and print sharing is enabled.
  2. From Enterprise Console, run the Protect Computers wizard again. Deployment should now succeed.

If you still see the problem, check that  the computer running the console can access the remote registry on the affected computer, and the C$ share.
