Sophos Update Manager: installation location
When you use the command line version of the Mac OS X application 'Installer', and configure it to install Sophos Update Manager, version 2 to a folder other than the root of the boot drive, the installation returns one of the following messages:
Upgrading volume mounted at /
This message indicates that it has installed to the root of the boot drive.
- Error trying to locate volume at
/<foldername>
This message indicates that installer has failed. This will only be seen if you are running release10.3 of Mac OS X.
What to do
If you use the command line to install Sophos Update Manager 2, ensure that you install it to the root of the boot drive.
Note: If you specify subfolders, or a non-boot drive, the installation will either fail, or install to the root of the boot drive anyway.
Technical details
The command line version of the Mac OS X application 'Installer' does not allow the installation of the Sophos Update Manager 2 package to any folder other than the root of the boot drive.
If you run a command similar to this:
sudo installer -pkg
Sophos Update Manager 2 will be installed to / and not /<foldername>, or, if you are running release10.3 of Mac OS X, the installation fails.
