Sophos Mobile Security: updating mechanism

When synchronized, or otherwise attached to your network, Sophos Mobile Security can update itself via an Internet connection if available through the network.

Updates for Sophos Mobile Security are only available from the Sophos webCID via the Internet. They are not available from EM Library and customer-maintained sources.

When your phone is not attached to your network, you can configure it to update directly from Sophos over the internet using HTTP. Sophos Mobile Security can use any internet connection available to the device e.g. wireless, GPRS, 3G, CDMA. By default, these updates take place once every seven hours.

Update mechanism

The update mechanism has been designed to be as lightweight as possible:

• First a checksum is downloaded.
• That checksum is compared with the one on the mobile phone.
• No update will be downloaded unless the checksum has changed.
